Those who’ve been collecting the Subterranean Press editions of the Red Rising trilogy books will be happy to know that the publisher is still on course to release limited editions of the sequel trilogy, which begins with Iron Gold, at some point in the future.
What’s more, if you’ve pre-ordered Morning Star, there’s good news there too. But we’ll get to that in a minute.
Iron Gold Subterranean Press Edition
Subterranean Press dropped an update on their site today, stating that they have the final three novels in the Red Rising series under contract. Sub Press actually mentioned this back in November when they opened Morning Star up for pre-order, but the latest announcement is a nice reminder that they’re coming eventually.
Exactly when these limited edition printings will happen remains to be announced, which isn’t entirely surprising as only one of the three books has been published. Pierce Brown’s Iron Gold (Red Rising #4) dropped in January 2018. Dark Age is set to hit shelves in July. And then there’s the yet-to-be-titled Red Rising Book 6, which doesn’t have a release date yet. It’s unclear if Sub Press plans to wait until all three novels in the current trilogy are out, or if they’ll start rolling out the new special editions ahead of the final book.
Also unconfirmed is whether or not Tommy Arnold will return to do the cover art for the new trilogy. Here’s hoping though, since he did such a great job on the Sub Press editions for the original trilogy.
Morning Star Subterranean Press Edition
As for the original trilogy, while the Subterranean Press editions of Red Rising and Golden Son are sold out, the numbered edition of Morning Star (Red Rising Book 3) is still available for pre-order. And those who’ve ordered it may not have much longer to wait, as Sub Press says they just sent it off to the printer. Hopefully that means it’ll be shipping at some point in the near future.
If you haven’t pre-ordered Morning Star, time may be running out for the opportunity to pick up one of the 750 copies of the numbered edition available. As of today’s announcement, it’s more than 93% sold out. The lettered edition (aka the fancy and super-limited and super-expensive leatherbound edition) is sold out. All three books feature gorgeous cover art by artist Tommy Arnold.

It’s also worth noting that purchasing Morning Star gets you on the list to be notified ahead of the official announcement when pre-ordering for Iron Gold is open.
Howler Back
In other news, I feel like I’m long overdue to do another Howler Back feature. This is the thing where you drop an email through the contact form with your Red Rising thoughts, opinions, questions, hot takes and/or wild opinions and I try to respond to them with coherent thoughts. So if you have something you want me to talk about, submit it here.
